On Wednesday, Amazon unveiled its latest innovation: AI-powered smart glasses designed specifically for delivery drivers. These glasses aim to create a hands-free experience, minimizing the need for drivers to frequently shift their attention between their mobile devices, packages, and surrounding environments.
The upcoming smart glasses will enable delivery personnel to scan packages, navigate with turn-by-turn directions, and document proof of delivery—all without needing to rely on their phones. Leveraging advanced AI sensing capabilities and computer vision, the glasses will integrate a display to highlight hazards and streamline delivery tasks.
Amazon anticipates that these glasses will enhance delivery efficiency by providing drivers with essential directions and hazard information directly in their line of sight, potentially reducing delivery times.

With the glasses, once a driver parks at a delivery location, they will activate automatically. This feature assists in locating packages within the vehicle and offers navigational support to the delivery address. They are particularly useful in complex environments, such as multi-unit apartment buildings or business premises.
Complementing the glasses, a controller is worn in the delivery vest, featuring operational controls, a replaceable battery, and a dedicated emergency button for added safety.
Furthermore, the glasses are designed to support prescription and transitional lenses, allowing them to adapt to varying light conditions.

Amazon is currently piloting these glasses with delivery drivers in North America, with plans to perfect the technology prior to a broader release.

This announcement aligns with earlier reports, such as those from Reuters, which indicated that Amazon has been developing these smart glasses for quite some time.
Looking ahead, Amazon envisions these glasses offering features like “real-time defect detection,” which could alert drivers if a package is mistakenly delivered to the wrong address. The glasses will also be capable of detecting pets in yards and adapting to various hazards, such as low-light conditions.
Alongside the smart glasses, Amazon introduced a new robotic arm named “Blue Jay,” designed to assist warehouse staff by retrieving items from shelves and sorting them efficiently. Additionally, the company announced a new AI tool dubbed Eluna, intended to provide valuable operational insights for Amazon’s warehouse operations.
